The Kurt Hahn Expeditionary Learning School (the Kurt Hahn School) is a New York City Public High School working in partnership with New York City Outward Bound and Expeditionary Learning Schools to arm students with the knowledge, skills and character necessary to serve as informed, thoughtful and courageous civic leaders in their own communities and beyond.
As an expeditionary learning school Kurt Hahn strives to provide students with opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. This starts in the fall with the incoming 9th grade class embarking on a weeklong trip to the woods to build community, and continues throughout the year with multiple opportunities for students to participate in community service. We are very excited to announce that for the first time ever, three teachers at the Kurt Hahn School are organizing a trip in collaboration with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, to provide 16 students with an opportunity to take a trip to Ithaca in March. While visiting Ithaca students will be working on farms, touring colleges, and experiencing the city’s culture and community. This trip is in alignment with our school goals, and also will provide students with the opportunity to:
- Experience upstate New York
- Engage in community service by working on many farms in the greater Ithaca Area
- Learn techniques to bring back to the Kurt Hahn Schools garden
- Tour and experience college campuses as they are currently in the application process
Participating in this campaign will help students embark on this once in a lifetime trip opportunity and will help fund transportation costs, lodging and food.
